Break Camp And Advance in 2010

Entrepreneurship, Inspiration, Personal Development No Comments »

Well friends, 2009 is over and done, and a new year is here.  It’s really just another day like any other, but serves as a great landmark in time for us to step back, observe what has happened over the last year, learn from that, and determine how to make that better in the next year.

I believe you can make the most out of 2010 by starting with getting your mindset correct.  We can learn a lot from a familiar story in the Old Testament of the Bible.  The story of the promised land.  Read this passage from Deuteronomy 1:6-8:

6 The LORD our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. 7 Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. 8 See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land that the LORD swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.”

You see, God told them, “you have stayed here long enough…break camp and advance.”  We’ve been where we are at now for long enough.  God has given us the promised land, it’s just up to us to take a step of faith and make it happen.  But here’s another part of the deal, we need to act with some urgency, trusting God all along the way…the trip from where they started to the promised land was an 11 days trip, but took the Israelites 40 years to reach there.

When the 12 went to Canaan and came back reporting what they saw, 10 saw only the hardships, the negatives, the giants, imagining how hard it would be to overtake them (not counting on the power of God to provide their every need) and therefore determined there was no way they could enter the promised land.  The other 2 returned reporting the endless bounty, the positives, and how great everything there was.

The same goes for us today…do you see the positives or the negatives in life? Those 2 who came back reporting the good news were the ones that ended up prospering later on…and the so the same goes for you!

I think we can directly apply the story of David and Goliath to our lives.  Goliath was an incredibly large man; he didn’t even carry his own armor. And David: well, he was just a youngster and a shepherd.  They told David, “All you’ve got is a sling and a stone. You can’t kill Goliath.”  And David said, “He’s so big, I can’t miss him!”

You see, it comes down to our mentality and philosophies in life…The Law of Expectation: You get what you expect!

…Keep David’s mindset with you everywhere you go; when others are telling you there’s no way you can slay that giant, you say, “He’s so big, there’s no way I can miss!”

Have you been in a rut during the last year?  Now’s the time to start fresh and get out of it.  After all, you may have heard the phrase, “A rut is just a grave with the two ends kicked out.”

So, friends, you’re going to get exactly what you expect out of 2010, whether good or bad. Opportunities are endless, you can find them everywhere you go.  Here’s something I keep on my mind all the time now, “I wake up every morning with the certainty that something great will happen and the uncertainty of where it will come from.”

I’ve got a feeling that 2010 is going to be your year! That you’ll be happier than you’ve ever been, laughing harder, smiling wider, standing taller, walking lighter, living grander, and loving louder.

…And I’m here to help make that happen for you!

Contagious Happiness?!

Inspiration, Network Marketing No Comments »

A medical journal recently reported something that probably all of us have experienced: happiness is contagious. Tracking more than 4,700 people as part of a 20-year study, researchers found that “people pass on their good cheer [to others,] even to total strangers.”  “Happiness is like a stampede,” a professor at Harvard and one of the study’s authors said. “Whether you’re happy depends not just on your own actions and beahvoirs and thoughts, but on those of people you don’t even know.”

Indeed, happiness can be surprisingly easy to spread. When we’re feeling good about life, we naturally radiate cheerfulness. Our positive outlook rubs off on others. A smile, a nod, a simple word of greeting or gratitude to those around us can change both our outlook and theirs. In fact, it can change someone’s entire day.

Think of the amazing power we each have to share happiness and brighten someone’s life. Some days we’re more able to give good cheer, and other days we may be the recipients. Give and take – that’s what makes happiness so contagious and so powerful.

Of course, the opposite is probably also true. If we’re feeling down, if we’re negative about life, that must surely rub off on others. It takes courage and strength to choose to extend happiness and cordiality when we don’t much feel like it – and we all have days like that. At the same time, it takes simple, kindhearted openness to receive good cheer from others.

Walking down a street, sitting on a bus, waiting in line – they’re all opportunities to spread a little happiness. Anyone who has tried it knows that when you’re smiling, the whole world really does smile with you.

CHEERS! (Literally)

You Want Security…But at What Cost?

Entrepreneurship, Inspiration, Internet Marketing, Network Marketing, Personal Development No Comments »

Hey, I just read through Why We Want You To Be Rich by Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki (author of Rich Dad Poor Dad).  It is a great book and I would definitely recommend you picking up your own copy…and reading it too, of course!

There was one part that is especially true for internet and network marketers.

In this section, they discussed the idea of security and how it relates to business and success.  It was one of the most poignant points I’ve heard in quite a while.

Basically, they said, business is not about security, rather it’s about freedom.

If you’ve started your current business or you are in the process of finding the right business for you, DON’T start because you want security, because you certainly won’t find it in your own business!  I think this is a subtle point that most people miss.  Many people join a network marketing company, they picture themselves earning a huge income and having the trappings of success, and they falsely equate that to security.

And what usually happens?  They get going, follow the initial advice of their sponsor, and soon they begin to see the rough road ahead of them if they’re going to achieve what they wanted.  At some point down the road, usually fairly soon, the typical network marketer starts to realize they’re working pretty hard and putting in a lot of time, but they are not making much income to show for it.  And it’s at the moment that the questions and doubt start building…

“Is it worth all this?”  “Am I really getting anywhere?” And so on.

The answer is definitely YES!, but most miss this.  They view their business through the eyes of an employee, and they equate time to money, realizing that they are putting a lot in for just a little return.  They get depressed and eventually give up and quit.  It’s a shame, but it happens every single day.  It’s certainly not because network marketing doesn’t offer way more than a j.o.b. (just over broke), but because of the employee mentality they apply to their business, which is wrong.

A job offers a certain sense of security…you put in x amount of time, you get paid x amount of dollars.  If that’s what you’re after then your own business certainly isn’t for you.

Here’s how my friend Daegan Smith put it:

“If security is your goal, here’s how to guarantee yourself ultimate security.  Trot down to your neighborhood store and rob the place, but make sure you get caught.  Do this and you secure your future.

You’ll never have to pay for lodging and you’ll never have to worry about where money for your next meal is coming from.

At what cost?

Jail is the ultimate in security but there is no FREEDOM to be found there.”

This example is extreme, but realize that the J.O.B. world is really no different!  You give up freedom for the security of a consistent, predictably recurring paycheck.  Network marketing (and internet marketing) on the other hand, offers you freedom but guarantees you no security.

Which would you choose in the grand scheme of life?

A friend of mine, not too long ago, maybe six months or so ago told me, “You know, I could never do what you do, I wouldn’t know from day to day how much, if any, money I would make that day (week, month, etc).”  Well, guess what happened just a couple months later…yep, his company had layoff’s and he was one of the lucky ones.  That’s how secure even that security is today!

Business, and more specifically, your network marketing business is a fight and a risk, but a worthwhile one.  It’s to those that realize what freedom means to them who press on despite the initial outcome and win the prize.  So, I guess I would urge you to think about what your business REALLY means to you…

I know what it means to me, and it’s a fight you won’t see me retreat from!

What Can an All-Out Sprint Do For You?

Inspiration No Comments »

So, for the last couple weeks I’ve been doing an interval training to burn off some fat.
If you’re not familiar with interval training, it’s short periods of high intensity/speed
workouts, followed by intervals of rest.  This can be intervals of weigh lifting and/or
intervals of sprinting and running.

In doing some sprints, it got me to thinking a bit about how they relate to life and
business.

If you’re running a long distance at a regular pace, your body tries telling you all these
things like, “my knee hurts”, “my back hurts”, “I’m getting tired”.  But in an all-out sprint,
you don’t have time to think about that, you just exert a lot of energy and get it over with.

You just run!

But you can’t sprint forever.  That’s what makes it sprinting.  The brief duration of it is a
key part of why it works.

In your life, your business, the best way to overcome deadlines, fear of creativity, intelligent
risk taking, brainstorming, or working through a tough situation just might be to sprint!

Here’s what author Seth Godin has to say of an example of how sprinting helped him.

————————————————
“Quick, you have thirty minutes to come up with ten business ideas.”

“Hurry, we need to write a new script for our commercial… we have fifteen minutes.”

My first huge project was launching a major brand of science-fiction computer adventure games (Ray Bradbury, Michael Crichton, etc.). I stopped going to business school classes in order to do the launch.

One day, right after a red eye flight, the president of the company told me that the company had canceled the project. They didn’t have enough resources to launch all the products we had, our progress was too slow and the packaging wasn’t ready yet.

I went to my office spent the next 20 hours rewriting every word of text, redesigning every package, rebuilding every schedule and inventing a new promotional strategy. It was probably 6 weeks of work for a motivated committee, and I did it in one swoop. Like lifting a car off an infant, it was impossible, and I have no recollection at all of the project now.

The board reconsidered and the project was back on again. I didn’t get scared until after the sprint. You can’t sprint every day but it’s probably a good idea to sprint regularly.
